As the countdown to the World Cup kicks off on June 11, football fans nationwide are eagerly preparing for the upcoming frenzy. However, a significant number of fans are feeling the pinch when it comes to affording official national team shirts, with research showing that nearly 80% find the average price of around £100 too steep.
Concerns about keeping expensive shirts clean and intact during games have led 50% of fans to opt for more affordable T-shirts to preserve the original jersey. In response to these cost concerns, Asda has introduced a budget-friendly solution by offering England and Scotland-inspired shirts for just £12 at their George stores this summer.
To address the possibility of early team exits, Asda is allowing customers to exchange tournament shirts for other clothing items. A spokesperson from Asda emphasized the importance of making football attire accessible to all fans, stating that supporters should not have to break the bank to join in the tournament spirit, especially those who are occasional followers of the sport.
Despite the financial hurdles, a survey revealed that 43% of people still desire to sport team colors during major events. However, the high price tags have deterred more than half of Brits from purchasing football shirts, with 74% considering them unaffordable. The survey also highlighted that 58% of respondents believe a reasonable price for a football shirt would fall between £25 and £49.
With prices starting from as low as £5, George’s range of England and Scotland-inspired apparel offers fans an affordable avenue to showcase their support throughout the tournament.
