Atmos Energy, a natural gas provider, disclosed that a non-affiliated construction crew had inadvertently damaged a pipeline in the vicinity of the fire site.
One resident, Kacee Proctor, mentioned that her mother had detected a gas odor inside the building the day before the explosion. However, Proctor was not present during the incident and expressed distress over her cat, Shirley, being trapped inside the apartment.
Following the incident, natural gas services in the area were suspended, and company officials collaborated with investigators on-site to assess the situation. A family reunification center was established at a nearby high school to assist individuals in locating their loved ones affected by the tragedy.
