A fire incident occurred on a train at a New York rail yard, leading to the suspension of services from Penn Station, which is known as the busiest train station in the western hemisphere.
The fire involved an Amtrak work train at the West Side rail yard in Manhattan. Officials disclosed that five workers, suspected to be railway employees, sustained injuries and were treated for smoke inhalation. Among them, two individuals are reported to have suffered severe injuries according to ABC7.
NJ Transit, Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), and Amtrak services have been halted due to the incident. Emergency responders are present at the scene on 10th Avenue and 31st Street, where thick black smoke was observed engulfing the area around 1.30am EDT (6.30am BST), as per ABC7 updates.
Fire crews are currently at 10th Avenue and 31st Street addressing a track fire in one of the Hudson River Tunnels.
