A woman shared her extraordinary experience of encountering death twice, vividly recalling observing medical personnel working on her lifeless body before deciding to return to it.
Barbara Bartolome has faced death more intimately than most individuals ever will, beginning with a moment at just 18 months old when she ceased breathing and briefly passed away during a severe fever. Despite her body appearing “purple and devoid of life,” her family witnessed her miraculous revival.
Years later, at 31, Barbara faced another near-death encounter when her heart stopped during pre-surgery preparations for a back operation at a hospital. She described floating above her body near the hospital room ceiling, witnessing medical staff fighting to resuscitate her.
Recalling the event, Barbara, a Santa Barbara, California resident, recounted feeling a sense of peace and acceptance while watching the medical drama unfold below. She believed she was surrounded by unconditional love and described encountering a familiar presence, which she likened to God.
Barbara’s brush with death occurred in December 1987 during a laminectomy discectomy procedure to alleviate nerve pain in her back. An accidental mishap with an X-ray technician caused dye to enter her brain, leading to a critical situation where doctors and nurses rushed to save her life.
Despite feeling drawn to the peaceful realm she experienced beyond life, Barbara made a conscious decision to return to her body, driven by her love and responsibility towards her young children. Witnessing her own resuscitation efforts, she pleaded with the universe to bring her back to life. Miraculously, a cardiac thump revived her as she opened her eyes to the astonishment of the medical team.
Barbara underwent the planned surgery the next day, followed by a four-day hospital recovery. Despite healthcare professionals’ reluctance to discuss her near-death experience, Barbara remained steadfast in her belief of its authenticity, convinced that it was a profound turning point in her life.
