A murder investigation has been initiated into the death of a devoted Arsenal fan involved in a dispute following the team’s recent Premier League victory. The 34-year-old man, known as Denis, was allegedly assaulted by a Manchester United supporter shortly after Arsenal secured their first Premier League title in 22 years on May 24. The incident occurred during celebrations in Kampala, Uganda, where Denis was watching the match.

Authorities in Uganda have launched a search for the suspect involved in the May 24 altercation in Kampala, which took place right after Arsenal’s triumph against Crystal Palace. Fans worldwide have celebrated Arsenal’s long-awaited Premier League win, marking their first title since the 2003/04 season when the club remained unbeaten throughout the campaign.

According to Rachel Kawala, a spokeswoman for the Kampala police, initial investigations suggest that a disagreement between Denis, an Arsenal supporter, and the alleged Manchester United fan escalated into a physical confrontation. The suspect reportedly struck Denis on the head, resulting in his immediate death. Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.

The Premier League has garnered significant popularity in Uganda, where enthusiastic crowds frequently gather at local venues to watch matches on large screens. Separately, incidents of violence marred the Arsenal Champions Parade, with six individuals stabbed and a police officer injured by a knife attack. The Metropolitan Police arrested 24 individuals following the deployment of 500 officers to manage the chaos.

Furthermore, ten individuals were arrested for assaulting police, and three others were apprehended on suspicion of sexual assault during the celebrations. The events unfolded as hundreds of thousands of Arsenal fans congregated in north London to commemorate the club’s historic Premier League victory after 22 years. Police have reported no severe injuries in five of the stabbing incidents, but they are actively searching for an assailant responsible for causing life-threatening injuries to a man.
