Barry Manilow, aged 82, is facing concerns about the potential permanent loss of his vocal abilities. The legendary singer has been receiving medical treatment following a diagnosis of lung cancer that necessitated surgery.

The news of Barry’s health struggle was made public in December last year when he was diagnosed with the illness. Shortly after the diagnosis, he underwent a lobectomy to remove a significant portion of his cancerous left lung. Barry, who had a history of smoking until the age of 39 before transitioning to vaping, expressed uncertainty about the recovery of his voice during an appearance on Good Morning America.

Reflecting on his recent sound check, Barry admitted that his voice sounded different and lacked its usual strength, causing him distress. Despite efforts to rebuild his vocal strength, he lamented the challenging process of waiting for his voice to return to its former glory.

Following his surgery, where the tumor was successfully removed at an early stage without the need for further cancer treatments, Barry faced a frightening ordeal battling pneumonia that led to a brief stay in the intensive care unit. Despite the setbacks, he remains hopeful about his recovery and looks forward to celebrating his upcoming 83rd birthday on June 17.

Acknowledging the impact of his music on his fans worldwide, Barry expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and prayers he has received. Determined to return to the stage for his farewell tour, Barry remains optimistic about his physical condition and vocal abilities, although he is aware of potential challenges ahead.

Barry is scheduled to begin his UK tour in Glasgow on June 9 before continuing his performances in the United States.
