An explosion in a popular Italian tourist destination has resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries as a building collapsed unexpectedly. The incident occurred in Porto Sant ‘Elpidio, where a two-storey structure was struck by a powerful blast believed to be triggered by a gas leak around 6am on Saturday.
Emergency responders recovered the deceased body of a man from the debris, with two families inside the building at the time of the explosion. Among those affected were a child and the elderly parents of the victim, who received immediate medical attention on-site before being taken to a hospital. A woman caught in the blast was airlifted to a nearby hospital in Torrette di Ancona for treatment.
Rescue efforts are ongoing to locate another woman believed to be trapped in the wreckage, with firefighters utilizing drones, dogs, and excavators in a frantic search operation. The force of the explosion not only destroyed the building but also caused damage to nearby shops and structures.
