Three children and an adult were tragically killed when a car collided with a group of cyclists in a rural part of the Netherlands. The incident occurred near the village of Vogelwaarde, close to the Belgian border, as the group, which included 14 schoolchildren and two supervisors from an elementary school in the nearby town of Axel, was on a school trip.
Authorities reported that two children and one adult died at the scene, while four children sustained serious injuries and were transported to hospitals in the Netherlands and Belgium. Regrettably, one of the injured children passed away at a hospital in Rotterdam later that evening, according to the Zeeland Security Region organization.
A 19-year-old man has been detained by the police, who are investigating his involvement in the incident. However, it has not been confirmed whether he was the driver of the vehicle. The collision occurred on a provincial road amidst farmers’ fields near Vogelwaarde, approximately 200 kilometers (125 miles) south of Amsterdam.
A thorough police investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the tragic collision.
