iOS users often face performance challenges with older devices, experiencing a gradual decrease in speed over time, especially after annual iOS updates. However, a significant change is on the horizon for 2026.
Recently unveiled at WWDC in California, iOS 27 introduces various enhancements, including an upgraded Siri assistant, enhanced Apple Intelligence, improved photo editing tools, and customization options for the Liquid Glass appearance. Notably, Apple promises a substantial performance boost with this update.
According to the tech giant, iOS 27 is projected to accelerate app launches by up to 30%, resulting in a smoother user experience. Additionally, photo loading speeds across devices are expected to increase by 70%, while AirDrop transfers will be up to 80% faster.
The most exciting aspect is that this performance enhancement extends beyond the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max model. Through a feature known as the CPU scheduler, even older models like the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 will benefit from increased speed and fluidity.
The CPU scheduler optimizes performance by allocating maximum resources to the active app on the screen rather than distributing power evenly across all loaded applications. This dynamic adjustment aims to provide users with a more seamless device experience.
While the full extent of these improvements remains to be seen, Apple is confident that iOS 27 will prolong the usability of aging devices, potentially eliminating the need to upgrade iPhones that are still in good condition.
Apple stated, “Improvements across platforms push key system capabilities forward so everyday tasks feel faster, smoother, and more enjoyable.” Although the release date for iOS 27 is pending, it is anticipated to be available in September.
