Britons are bracing for heavy rain as 18 regions are placed on alert while a 250-mile stretch of rainfall moves across the nation. Following a period of damp and cool weather, scorching temperatures are expected later, but more inclement conditions are anticipated before then, with significant rain forecasted to arrive by Tuesday.
Low-pressure systems originating from the Atlantic are causing unsettled weather patterns and rain showers midweek. According to BBC weather forecaster Jennifer Bartram, the upcoming weather fronts will bring a notable spell of rain, starting on Tuesday with showers and gusty winds in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, followed by heavier rain spreading across southwest England, Wales, and the Midlands later in the day.
The Met Office’s weather map indicates that the most intense rainfall is projected for Tuesday afternoon and evening, affecting primarily the Midlands, the southwest, sections of Wales, and Scotland, with precipitation rates reaching up to 8mm per hour before 7pm. Northern Scotland may experience rainfall rates as high as 32mm per hour during the same period.
The Met Office’s forecast for Monday suggests a dry day with sunny intervals, showers moving eastward across southern regions, potential thunderstorms, thickening clouds in the west and north, and evening rain. Winds will be light to moderate, and temperatures will hover around average levels.
Looking ahead to Tuesday through Thursday, the forecast indicates cloudy conditions in the west and north with intermittent rain, heavy in some areas. Brighter intervals are expected to develop with blustery showers later, particularly in the north. While the southeast will see warmer temperatures, the rest of the country will experience near-average conditions.
