Renowned TV personality Alan Titchmarsh recently shared insights from his collaboration with former football star David Beckham at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The event featured the unveiling of the Curious Garden, a project aimed at inspiring young people to explore horticulture careers, in partnership with the RHS and the King’s Foundation. The display showcased delphiniums, the King’s favorite flower, and an oak-framed structure representing a museum of botanical wonders, along with the introduction of the David Beckham rose.
During a conversation with The Times, Alan praised David’s gardening skills and noted his affable nature. Alan recounted a stroll with David at the Chelsea Flower Show, highlighting David’s willingness to engage with fans and enhance the appeal of gardening.
Alan had previously interviewed David for Country Life magazine, where he learned about David’s hands-on approach to gardening at his Cotswolds estate. David explained his choice of the Cotswolds, emphasizing its beauty and accessibility from London for his family. He described stumbling upon the property by chance and transforming it into his vision of a countryside retreat.
David admitted to purchasing the Cotswolds property without consulting his wife, Victoria Beckham, but she eventually embraced the project. Reflecting on her initial reluctance, David shared how he convinced her to support the renovation, leading to the family’s eventual return to the transformed home.
Prior to his involvement in the Chelsea Flower Show, David expressed his lifelong love for gardening, nurtured during his childhood visits to his grandparents’ gardens. He eagerly anticipated collaborating on the Curious Garden project to inspire others to connect with nature and explore new experiences in gardening.
