A gas explosion in a village near Malaga has caused injuries to several individuals, including two children. The incident occurred at the Mesón Morisco restaurant, leading to the collapse of the building’s storeroom and a neighboring home.
Approximately 50 diners were present during the explosion, which resulted in widespread debris across Sayalonga in the Axarquía area. Emergency services reported that eight people, including two children, sustained minor injuries and were treated on-site without hospitalization.
Authorities, including the Guardia Civil and fire brigade, have cordoned off the severely damaged property for investigation. Local residents described the scene as chaotic, with one recalling the sound resembling an earthquake.
The explosion, believed to be caused by a possible gas leak, severely damaged multiple buildings in the vicinity. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, and efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety of affected structures.
The Mesón Morisco restaurant, now temporarily closed, expressed plans to reopen stronger following the incident. The mayor of Sayalonga conveyed relief that the injuries were minor and no fatalities occurred.
