A cast member of the Scream movie series recently disclosed the unexpected residual income he still receives from one of the films. The initial installment of the Scream franchise premiered in 1996, directed by Wes Craven, featuring a storyline revolving around Sidney Prescott and her friends being hunted by a sinister killer known as Ghostface.
Following the success of the first film, multiple sequels were produced, including releases in 1997 and 2000. After an 11-year hiatus, Scream 4 hit theaters in 2011. More recently, the horror series returned with a fifth and sixth installment in 2022 and 2023, respectively. This year, the seventh movie was released, becoming the highest-grossing film in the series to date.
The satirical nature of the suspenseful thriller, credited to the ingenious writing of Kevin Williamson and direction of Wes Craven, along with the characters’ self-awareness of horror film tropes, contributed to the resurgence of interest in teen slasher films.
In a recent development, a performer from Scream 2 shared his residual earnings 29 years after the movie’s release. Craig Shoemaker, known for his role as ‘Artsy Teacher’ in the sequel, posted a picture of his residual check on Instagram, revealing a total income of $34.09.
In his post, Craig reminisced about his role in the sequel and expressed delight at the ongoing residual payments. Meanwhile, the latest installment in the Scream series, Scream 7, prioritized the original protagonist, Sidney Prescott, portrayed by Neve Campbell, alongside her daughter Tatum, played by Isabel May.
Neve Campbell did not participate in the sixth Scream film in 2024, where Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera starred as sisters with connections to one of the original Ghostface perpetrators, Billy Loomis. Neve cited a pay dispute as the reason for her absence, emphasizing the importance of fair compensation for her contributions to the franchise.
Acknowledging her fans’ unwavering support, Neve expressed gratitude for the opportunities and experiences the Scream series has provided throughout her 25-year journey.
