“Grieving Mother Calls for Justice After Daughter’s Tragic Death”

Published on

The grieving mother of a young woman who was tragically killed by her father in his residence in the United States has lodged a formal complaint with the local police department overseeing the investigation.

Lucy Harrison, a resident of Warrington, Cheshire, was only 23 years old when she was fatally shot by her father, Kris, on January 10 last year while visiting his home in Prosper, Texas, with her boyfriend Sam Littler.

Despite the circumstances surrounding the shooting, a grand jury determined that there was insufficient evidence to bring charges against Kris. A grand jury is a group of citizens tasked with investigating potential criminal activities and deciding whether there is enough evidence to prosecute a suspect.

The firearm used in the incident was legally owned by Harrison in Texas, where state law did not mandate him to possess a license or undergo training for its use in home defense. Following an inquiry at Cheshire Coroner’s Court, it was concluded that Lucy’s death was an unlawful killing.

During the investigation, Mr. Harrison reportedly confessed to consuming alcohol on the day of the incident, although no breathalyzer or blood alcohol tests were conducted by the authorities.

The case was officially closed by the US police in June 2025. A year later, Lucy’s mother, Jane Coates, from Warrington, formally lodged a complaint with the Prosper Police Department. She expressed concerns that the investigation lacked thoroughness and oversight, urging for a reopening of the case.

Jane emphasized that the essence of her complaint was not centered on laws or jurisdiction but on the perceived deficiencies in the police inquiry, which she believed did not meet the professional standards deserving of Lucy.

Following the resolution of Lucy’s inquest in February, Jane raised issues regarding the speed at which the police dismissed the possibility of pressing charges. She questioned the premature determination of the shooting as accidental before a proper medical examination was conducted on Lucy.

Jane also highlighted the need for a more in-depth investigation into Kris’ alcohol consumption on the day of the incident, given that he was the sole witness to Lucy’s death.

In her pursuit of justice for her daughter, Jane launched a campaign called For Luce, advocating for better support for families navigating foreign justice systems. She lamented that Lucy’s death was preventable and a tragic loss of a promising life.

Requests for comments from the Prosper Police Department remain unanswered.
