A young man is in critical condition in a hospital after sustaining multiple injuries from a quad bike accident in Greece. Alfie Moses, 18, was on his first vacation with friends in Zante when the incident occurred. He suffered severe injuries, including fractured vertebrae, broken ribs, a punctured lung, a ruptured spleen, a brain bleed, and a broken shoulder.

Alfie was riding the quad bike at a speed of around 40mph when he crashed after hitting a raised edge on the road. He was airlifted to Mediterraneo Hospital in Athens for further treatment due to the extent of his internal injuries. His mother, Kayley Posnett, described the distressing experience of seeing her son in excruciating pain and barely able to communicate.

Doctors discovered bruising on his spinal cord caused by the damaged vertebrae and are planning spinal surgery once his lungs are stronger. Alfie is currently in intensive care receiving treatment for lung contusions and is showing signs of improvement, now able to communicate and remain positive.

Despite the initial medical costs amounting to £17,000 and ongoing care, the family is uncertain about insurance coverage due to quad bike exclusions. Kayley expressed concerns about the safety standards of quad bike rentals abroad, highlighting the dangers posed to young tourists.

Alfie’s recovery is expected to be lengthy and complex, but doctors are hopeful he will leave the hospital in the coming weeks or months. The family is facing financial challenges due to the high medical expenses incurred. It is crucial to raise awareness about the risks associated with quad biking and the need for stricter safety measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
