The trial at Teesside Crown Court revealed disturbing details about the death of two-year-old Isabelle Welsh. Isabelle had suffered 21 broken bones in the weeks leading up to her tragic demise last September in Thornaby. Her mother, Alexandra Walker, 25, and her boyfriend, Harrison Simpson, 22, face charges including murder, sexual assault, and child cruelty.
Prosecutors stated that the night before Isabelle’s fatal head injury, Walker and Simpson were drinking and using cannabis. The following morning, while Walker remained in bed, Simpson was caring for Isabelle alone. Simpson eventually left the residence, prompting Walker to search on Google about her daughter’s bleeding.
Despite the concerning signs of Isabelle’s deteriorating health, Walker did not take immediate action. It was not until about an hour after Simpson departed that Walker called her stepfather, who urged her to contact emergency services. Paramedics arrived promptly, but Isabelle passed away in the hospital the next day.
During police interviews, Walker initially denied knowledge of the abuse but later admitted that Simpson had been harming her daughter. Simpson chose not to respond to questions during the interviews. Prosecutors argued that both defendants were complicit in the repeated violence Isabelle endured, evident in the delays in seeking medical help and the attempts to conceal the abuse.
The court proceedings continue as further details of the case unfold.
