Around 100 firefighters are currently engaged in combatting a large fire that erupted in south-east London. The incident, impacting a shop and storage unit on Rye Lane in Peckham, is being handled by the London Fire Brigade (LFB). Visuals shared depict thick smoke plumes rising into the sky as firefighting crews work to contain the blaze.

At the scene, fifteen fire engines are present, utilizing two of the brigade’s 32-meter turntable ladders to address the fire from an elevated position. The first of over 30 emergency calls was received by control officers at 8:54 pm, although the cause of the fire remains unknown.

While responding to the situation, the LFB has advised individuals to steer clear of the affected area. Moreover, local residents have been cautioned to keep their windows and doors shut due to the significant smoke presence in the vicinity.

Reports have indicated that the fire is originating from Copeland Park, described as “Peckham’s Creative Quarter.” A representative from the LFB stated, “Firefighters are actively managing a fire on Rye Lane in Peckham. Local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to the substantial smoke levels in the area.”
