A British TikTok influencer is facing potential capital punishment in Dubai for the alleged murder of a fellow Brit whom she met online. Brooke George, 23, is claimed to have acted in self-defense against Bill Treeby, 26, following what she described as repeated assaults. George, a former John Lewis shop assistant with a significant TikTok following, reportedly traveled to the UAE after connecting with Treeby on Facebook for a photoshoot.
Treeby, who was found guilty of unlawful wounding and common assault in a previous case, was due to face trial for drug-related charges. He was part of a group charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine, following an investigation by Kent Police. George, currently held at Bur Dubai police station, alleges that Treeby had mistreated her during a second visit to Dubai, leading to a confrontation where she defended herself with a kitchen knife.
After her arrest, George claimed mistreatment by authorities, including being denied legal representation and subjected to humiliating experiences. Her mother expressed deep concern for her well-being, emphasizing George’s distress during the ordeal. Meanwhile, Treeby’s widow mourned his loss, describing him as a beloved family member.
Calls have been made by Detained in Dubai CEO Radha Stirling for George to be released on bail, with the incident being framed as a potential case of domestic abuse. Stirling highlighted past instances of individuals, including social media personalities, facing exploitation and mistreatment in Dubai. The Foreign Office confirmed their engagement with the case, providing support to George’s family and liaising with local officials.
