“PlayStation to Delete Purchased Movies from User Accounts”

Published on

PlayStation has announced that it will delete numerous movies purchased by users from their accounts in the coming months. Users received a “legal notice” explaining that due to licensing regulations, these movies will be removed from their accounts, rendering them inaccessible for viewing.

PlayStation users have the option to stream, rent, or buy movies on their PS4 and PS5 consoles with the latest updates. While previously accessible through the PlayStation store, the current method involves using the Sony Pictures Core app. Affected users were informed that a total of 551 movies will be removed starting from September 1.

Among the titles being pulled are beloved classics such as Terminator 2, Total Recall, Shaun The Sheep Movie – Farmageddon, Alan Partridge, The Evil Dead, Brighton Rock, The Deer Hunter, and Paddington. Even if users have purchased these movies, they will no longer have access to them.

The message from PlayStation specified, “From September 1, 2026, due to our content licensing agreements, you will no longer be able to access your previously purchased content from Studio Canal, and it will be removed from your video library.” The message concluded with a simple “Thank you, PlayStation Store” and a full list of the 550 affected films.
