“Great-Grandma Banned from Sainsbury’s Over Dispute”

Published on

A 79-year-old great-grandmother named Rita Seymour, residing in Hook, Hampshire, has been barred from all Sainsbury’s stores across the UK due to a series of incidents at her local outlet. Rita, a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, has appealed for the ban to be lifted as the next closest supermarket, Tesco, is a 20-minute walk away compared to the five-minute proximity of the Sainsbury’s she frequents.

Rita, who has been living in Hook since 1981, regularly shops at the nearby Sainsbury’s store, spending between £80 and £100 per visit. The ban was imposed after an altercation during her recent visit to the store when she had a dispute with a staff member while purchasing a lottery ticket.

Despite being accused of rude behavior and other infractions, Rita denies any wrongdoing and refutes the allegations made against her. She expressed her desire to have the ban revoked, emphasizing her peaceful nature and the convenience of the banned store location.

Sainsbury’s justified the ban by stating that it was a result of multiple incidents over time and prioritizing the safety and well-being of their staff and customers. Rita, however, stands firm on her innocence and aims to clear her name from the allegations.

Supermarkets hold the right to refuse service and bar entry to individuals for various reasons, including antisocial behavior, theft, or disruptive actions. Rita’s case sheds light on the discretionary powers of private establishments in enforcing bans to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons.
