A grandmother, Gill Thompson, reunited with her long-lost brother, Michael, after 73 years apart. Gill, a retired PE teacher from Llandudno, North Wales, had no knowledge of her father, Colin Bardsley, until receiving a Christmas card from her paternal grandfather when she was 25. Learning that her father had relocated to Cape Town, South Africa, and remarried, Gill struggled to find her brother, Michael Bardsley, during her searches in the late ’90s.
The reunion journey was reignited when Gill encountered an opponent with the same name as her brother at a bowls tournament in August last year. With the help of her daughter Sammy, Gill located Michael on LinkedIn, identifying him as her half-brother due to their shared family features.
On June 8, Michael, a sports film producer from Cape Town, met Gill for the first time at Colwyn Bay railway station in North Wales. The emotional reunion brought them together as siblings for the first time in their lives.
