A teenager, aged 14, is set to stand trial for the alleged murder of Lilly Jones, also 14, after her body was found in a park in south Wales. The accused, whose identity is protected by law, appeared in Cardiff Crown Court where a trial date starting on November 23 was scheduled by Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke. The body was discovered in Duffryn Park, Blaina, leading to the arrest of the youth. Lilly was last seen in High Street, Blaina, and parts of Pilgrims Park were sealed off following the discovery.

The defendant, who is yet to enter a plea, was detained until the upcoming plea and trial preparation hearing on July 24. Floral tributes were laid near the site of the tragic event. Lilly, a student at Brynmawr Foundation School, was remembered by head teacher Gerard McNamara for her kind and vibrant personality, with the school offering support to those affected by the loss.

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Thomas of Gwent Police expressed condolences to Lilly’s family and friends, emphasizing the importance of responsible language use during the investigation. The police presence in the area will persist for further examinations, and local residents were appreciated for their cooperation and patience during this challenging period.
