A man was apprehended for driving under the influence after he showed up at a crash site in a tractor to retrieve his pickup truck from a ditch where he had crashed it. Police in Nassau County, Florida, responded to a call about a pickup truck accident in Callahan on June 24. A witness informed deputies that the driver had already left the scene and gone to a nearby residence.
Bodycam footage revealed a white pickup truck stuck in a grassy ditch by the roadside. A bystander mentioned in the footage that the driver intended to use a tractor to pull out the truck and then return to retrieve it later.
The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office stated that the driver indeed returned on a tractor to tow his truck out of the ditch. Police body camera footage captured the man stumbling over the tractor upon his arrival, leading officers to conduct a sobriety test. The driver, who remained unidentified, failed the test and was promptly arrested for driving under the influence.
Deputies discovered a 15-pack of cold beer and several already opened containers in the man’s pickup truck. The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that DUI laws apply to all motor vehicles, including tractors, and urged individuals under the influence to surrender their keys to prevent dangerous situations.
