A British man passed away after falling seriously ill at an airport in Turkey just before his scheduled flight back home. David Kelly, a resident of Barrhead, Renfrewshire, Scotland, was urgently admitted to intensive care, placed in a medically induced coma, and maintained on life support while battling for his life far from his homeland.
His wife, Dawn, stood by him in a Turkish hospital for four weeks until he was finally transported back on 8 June via a specialized flying intensive care unit. Despite being transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, David peacefully passed away on 18 June, surrounded by his family.
The heartbreaking news of David’s death was shared by his family through the Facebook page of his business, Barrhead Joinery. The family expressed gratitude for the support received over the years and announced the closure of Barrhead Joinery in honor of David.
A fundraiser recounted how what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation turned into a nightmare when David fell ill at the airport, leading to his rapid deterioration and subsequent hospitalization in Turkey. Despite the efforts made, David eventually succumbed to his condition on 18 June, with his family at his side.
Described as a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, David was remembered for his selfless nature and willingness to help others. Tributes have poured in from the local community, with individuals expressing their sorrow and condolences for the loss.
Funds raised will go towards supporting Dawn and the family, covering funeral expenses, and contributing to donations for Kidney Research UK and the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
