A heatwave is set to bring temperatures up to 36C in the UK today, while some areas could see a significant drop to 4C in the coming days. The country is currently experiencing its third major heatwave of the year, prompting heat health alerts in various parts of England. Although the Met Office has not issued any weather warnings yet, people are being urged to stay hydrated due to the potentially severe health effects of the heat.

Temperatures are expected to linger in the 30s through next week, particularly in southern regions. However, relief from the scorching heat may be on the horizon as forecast models indicate a shift to much cooler conditions soon.

According to the GFS weather model, some areas in Scotland could see temperatures as low as 4C on July 19, with most of the UK waking up to temperatures below 10C. By midday, highs are forecasted to reach only 14C in eastern England, with temperatures ranging from 10C to 12C across the country, a stark difference from the recent days of 30C heat.

Similar cool temperatures are expected on the following day, with highs of around 15C in southern regions by midday on July 12. Anomalies in temperature maps show deep blue shading over the UK during this period, indicating temperatures well below the seasonal average.

The maps suggest that 81 counties could experience single-digit temperatures on the morning of July 19, with variations across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. The latest Met Office forecast predicts peak temperatures of 36C in the south and 34C in the north today, with a chance of thunderstorms later in the day.

Cloudier conditions with the risk of showery rain are expected in parts of Scotland, while thunderstorms may develop elsewhere. The evening is likely to remain dry and warm, although Scotland may experience some rain. Saturday could bring cloudy weather in Scotland with showery rain, while other areas may see sunshine with the possibility of low cloud along eastern coasts. Breezy conditions are expected, with hotter temperatures in the west and cooler temperatures in the east.
