In 2008, Daniel Lynch was sentenced to life imprisonment for orchestrating the assault on Katie, resulting in severe injuries including loss of eyesight in one eye and extensive burns. Recalling the trauma, Katie described the excruciating pain of the acid attack as akin to being engulfed in flames.
