The White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, declined to confirm whether Donald Trump would accept the outcomes of the upcoming midterm elections in November. This uncertainty arises as President Trump is set to deliver a primetime speech focusing on the “integrity of elections.”
There are concerns that Trump, facing potential losses in the upcoming congressional elections, may cast doubt on the election process or even contemplate canceling the elections entirely. Leavitt emphasized the importance of transparent and secure elections, stating that it is a bipartisan issue critical for the nation’s stability.
Despite Trump’s claims of election fraud in the 2020 election, numerous investigations and audits have debunked these allegations. Joe Biden decisively won the 2020 election with a significant margin in both popular and electoral votes. When questioned about Trump’s acceptance of the upcoming election results, Leavitt urged people to listen to the President’s speech before making assumptions.
House Democratic leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries dismissed Trump’s claims of election interference as baseless. When asked about potential interference from China, Jeffries referenced Rep. Jim Himes’ findings that foreign actors did not tamper with the technical aspects of the 2020 U.S. elections according to U.S. intelligence reports.
Jeffries warned against Trump’s potential dissemination of unverified information to support unfounded election fraud theories. He criticized Trump for perpetuating conspiracy theories rather than addressing real issues.
Trump’s speech is scheduled for 9 pm ET, which translates to 2 am in the UK.
