At least 20 children and one adult tragically lost their lives following a devastating accident involving a school bus colliding with a rock on a hazardous road in Uganda. Numerous others are reported to have sustained injuries during the incident, which occurred as the group was returning from a school excursion to Sipi Falls waterfalls. According to the Uganda Police Force, the driver apparently lost control of the bus due to a suspected mechanical issue around 8pm local time on Thursday.
Subsequently, the vehicle swerved off Chekwatit Hill in eastern Uganda, an area known for several serious accidents. Authorities stated that the driver lost control of the bus, causing it to veer off the road, hit a large stone on the roadside, and overturn. The bus was transporting students from King David Junior School in Ndejje before the tragic crash at Chekwatit village in the Kawowo area.
Minister of Local Government, Balaam Ateenyi Barugahara, expressed his sorrow at the scene, confirming the loss of 20 children and the founder and director, Mr. Tadeo Ssekade. This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and vehicle maintenance.
