“Poll: Americans View Trump’s Second Term as ‘Dangerous'”

Published on

Americans are now a year and a half into Donald Trump’s second term as President of the United States, and a recent poll by YouGov asked them to describe their thoughts on the 47th President. The responses indicate a negative sentiment towards the US President, with the most common adjective used being “dangerous.”

The poll revealed that in addition to “dangerous,” other terms like “corrupt,” “racist,” and “out-of-touch” were also used by a significant portion of respondents. However, there were positive words as well, predominantly from Republican voters, such as “honest,” “inspiring,” and “intelligent.”

While Trump received some positive feedback, the overall trend shows a decline in his approval rating. His net approval rating in the latest poll stood at negative 24 percent, lower than previous points in both his first term and the final term of his Democratic rival, Joe Biden.

Trump’s second term has been marked by controversies, including issues with the release of the Epstein files, immigration policies leading to criticism of ICE tactics, and a contentious war with Iran impacting global cost of living. Public opinion on his handling of immigration and race relations remains largely negative, while his stance on crime receives mixed reviews.

Despite challenges, Trump highlighted a decrease in murder rates during his tenure, emphasizing his administration’s efforts. However, the accuracy of this claim is debated due to historical crime data inconsistencies. The negative perception of Trump could impact Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections, as the party in power traditionally faces losses in Congress during midterm cycles.

Analysts suggest a potential shift in momentum away from the current administration, as shown by Democrats’ lead in recent House ballot polling. Harry Enten, CNN’s Chief Data Analyst, noted a narrower margin compared to previous cycles, indicating a warning sign for Republicans. The growing momentum may pose challenges for Trump and his party in the upcoming elections.
