Police uncovered a large cannabis factory hidden in an abandoned chicken unit, where criminals cultivated drugs worth £500,000. The discovery was made at a former agricultural site near Burbage, Wiltshire, where over 1,500 plants were found. Authorities described it as one of the largest illicit operations in the area, estimating that it illegally consumed around £1.5 million worth of electricity from the national grid.

The cannabis farm, measuring 60m x 12m, was found by a member of the public on July 17. Engineers are currently dismantling the dangerous electrical setup. Video footage released by Wiltshire Police showcased the extensive drug factory, equipped with living quarters, over 1,300 plants, and essential amenities for cultivation and living.

Detective Sergeant Joe Shanklin, part of the operation, commented on the sophistication of the setup, which included living areas with bedding, a kitchen, and a toilet. The facility had proper ventilation, power supply, and water access, indicating a significant and long-standing operation.

Authorities are in the process of removing equipment and plants from the site for safe disposal. While no arrests have been made, an investigation is ongoing. Wiltshire Police urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to drug cultivation and trafficking. They emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating illegal drug operations.
