A well-known zoo in Shropshire housing over 100 species had to shut down for the day due to a fire that erupted on the premises. Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World, located near Telford, announced on Facebook that fire crews were onsite addressing the situation.

The zoo assured that the fire was contained in an area without animals, with their priority being the safety of all creatures and staff. Consequently, the facility remained closed to the public for the day. The zoo expressed gratitude for the public’s understanding and promised to contact individuals holding tickets or reservations to reschedule their visits.

Owner Will Dorrell disclosed to BBC Radio Shropshire that the fire originated in one of the office sections, first noticed at approximately 7:45 am. The cause of the blaze remains unknown. Dorrell emphasized their fortunate timing, as the office is situated near the main entrance, shop, and café, potentially saving those areas from the fire if not for the prompt response.

Reportedly, the fire only caused damage to office equipment and documents. Formerly known as Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom, Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World is a family-operated zoo spanning 32 acres of countryside. Its rich history, spanning over 200 years, showcases its transformation from a dairy farm to a prominent visitor destination.

The zoo holds the second position on TripAdvisor’s list of top zoos in England, boasting a remarkable 4.7-star rating, trailing only behind Chester Zoo.
