‘Grim Reaper’ Scares Hospital: Man Fined £200

Published on

A man known as the ‘Grim Reaper’ received a fine after he climbed onto a hospital roof to scare people. Leon Gillespie, 26, admitted to causing a disturbance without a valid reason at an NHS facility and was fined £200 by Llandudno Magistrates. He was dressed in a ‘Grim Reaper’ costume while standing on the hospital roof, alarming staff and visitors.

Gillespie wielded a large blade and created noise on top of the hospital building while wearing a black outfit resembling a crow costume. His presence above Ysbyty Glan Clwyd hospital in St Asaph, Denbighshire on June 6 shocked onlookers. Police and fire service vehicles were dispatched to the scene, eventually persuading Gillespie to descend. The authorities were alerted about a man in black attire loitering over the hospital entrance. Gillespie did not provide a reason for his disruptive actions.

In addition to the hospital incident, Gillespie was found guilty of stealing cat food and litter worth £30 to £40 from a Pets at Home store on March 26, as well as food and beverages from Sainsbury’s in Llandudno on May 28. He was ordered to pay fines totaling £250 and compensation of £50.

A representative from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board emphasized their zero tolerance policy towards abuse, aggression, or disturbances on hospital premises. The North Wales Police spokesperson at the time of the event stated that Gillespie was charged for causing a disturbance at a NHS facility and refusing to leave when requested by law enforcement.
