Michelle Ryan recently revealed her upcoming project following her departure from the popular TV show EastEnders. The soap opera will showcase her exit later this year, and in anticipation of the dramatic scenes, Ryan has provided hints to her fans about what to expect next.
Initially joining the show as Zoe Slater in 2000, the 42-year-old actress took a break after five years but returned in 2025 to commemorate the Slater family’s 25th anniversary and her own 20-year absence from EastEnders.
However, just a year after her return, Ryan decided to leave the show, with reports suggesting her character will be written off in yet-to-be-aired episodes. A spokesperson from the Mirror confirmed the news, stating, “We can confirm Zoe Slater will be departing EastEnders later this year. We wish Michelle Ryan all the best for the future. However, we never comment on future storylines to avoid spoilers for the viewers.”
Despite her sudden exit, Ryan reassured fans that she is not taking a break from acting. She shared a photo on Instagram with the caption, “Working on my next project this summer and looking forward to sharing more soon. It’s been a busy stretch, so if you’ve written and are still waiting on a reply — they’re on the way.”
Fans expressed their support for Ryan in the comments, with one saying, “Stunning – so gutted that you’ve left EastEnders, it really did bring back so much nostalgia but looking forward to what seeing what you do next.” Another fan added, “I’m so gutted about Zoe. Kacey Ainsworth, known for her role as Little Mo Slater on EastEnders, showed her support for Ryan by commenting with raised hands emoji. Little Mo’s character was initially thought to be Zoe’s sister but was later revealed to be her aunt and cousin as Zoe’s father was related to Kat Slater.
Ainsworth has since moved on to star in ITV’s Grantchester series as Cathy Keating. Apart from her role in EastEnders, Ryan has appeared in various TV shows like Bionic Woman, Merlin, Doctor Who, and Death in Paradise.
