A powerful 4.3-magnitude earthquake jolted regions of Italy, with the quake’s center just four miles from the historic city of Pisa. The seismic activity struck around 10:15 am in northern Tuscany, affecting areas between the provinces of Lucca, Pisa, and Massa Carrara.

The earthquake’s epicenter was close to San Piero a Grado, a town near Pisa, at a shallow depth of approximately eight kilometers, as reported by Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV). The relatively shallow depth contributed to the widespread impact of the tremor across northern Tuscany.

Eugenio Giani, the regional governor of Tuscany, mentioned on social media that checks were ongoing with the regional emergency system and that the strong earthquake was felt throughout the northern part of Tuscany.
