A powerful 4.3-magnitude earthquake shook the Tuscany region in Italy, with its epicenter located just four miles from the historic city of Pisa. The earthquake, which occurred around 10:15 am local time, was felt across northern Tuscany, affecting areas such as Lucca, Pisa, and Massa-Carrara.

According to Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the epicenter was near San Piero a Grado, approximately seven kilometers from Pisa, at a shallow depth of about eight kilometers. The relatively shallow depth of the quake contributed to its widespread impact across northern Tuscany.

Eugenio Giani, the regional governor of Tuscany, confirmed the earthquake’s effects, stating on social media that checks were being conducted through the regional emergency system. A second tremor of 3.2-magnitude struck at 1:04 pm, with its epicenter located around five kilometers from Pisa at a depth of 11 kilometers.

Following the initial earthquake, Bernard Dika, undersecretary to the presidency of the Tuscany region, reported on social media that numerous calls were made to the regional emergency number 112. Precautionary evacuations were underway in the affected area, with no injuries reported at the time.

In San Giuliano Terme, near Pisa, three families were evacuated from a building due to structural instability caused by the earthquake. Firefighters conducted further inspections as a precautionary measure. No significant injuries or damages to buildings were reported, although residents in Pisa took precautionary measures by leaving their homes and gathering in the streets.

Court hearings at the local courthouse were suspended, and the city hall was evacuated temporarily for safety reasons. Rail services on various lines were also suspended for technical checks, but iconic landmarks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa remained unaffected and open to visitors.
