Ofcom has initiated urgent communication with TikTok after Perez Hilton’s alarming live stream. The former participant of the reality show “Big Brother” reportedly caused concern among viewers due to his troubling behavior during the broadcast.
Reports indicate that local authorities received numerous emergency calls regarding the well-being of the 48-year-old individual. Video snippets from Perez’s TikTok live session showed him appearing to be covered in blood and wielding a knife.
It is reported that local law enforcement officers engaged with family members present at the location. It was later confirmed that Perez was alone inside the premises before authorities decided to step back tactically to reassess the situation.
The broadcasting standards oversight body, Ofcom, has shed light on the issue, stating, “We have been made aware of serious apprehensions regarding self-harm content on TikTok.” Ofcom has promptly reached out to TikTok to ascertain the measures taken by the platform to fulfill its legal obligations in safeguarding users, especially minors.
Earlier this year, Ofcom launched an inquiry into TikTok’s compliance with its responsibilities in shielding children from harmful content exposure on the platform.
A spokesperson from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s office mentioned, “In situations involving individuals undergoing mental health crises or exhibiting self-harming behavior, deputies prioritize de-escalation techniques to reduce risks to all parties involved.”
Subsequently, it was confirmed that Perez was safely taken to a local hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue for medical attention. Crisis response units and mental health professionals from the Sheriff’s Office remained on-site to provide assistance and support to Perez’s family.
The video footage, which is not being displayed by the Mirror, has been removed from the platform, and Perez’s TikTok account has been suspended by TikTok.
In a statement to TMZ, Perez’s representative stated, “We are aware of concerning online content involving our client, Perez Hilton. Our foremost concern is Perez’s and his family’s well-being. Until we have verified information, we refrain from speculating or commenting further. We appreciate everyone’s concern and request respect for his privacy during this period.”
