A tragic incident occurred on the Costa Brava as a tourist lost his life in a collision between a boat carrying up to 12 individuals and the jet ski he was riding with his son in Roses, Girona. Authorities are investigating the event, which led to the death of the man on the jet ski, resulting in the boat driver’s arrest on suspicion of reckless homicide.

The deceased, a 54-year-old French national, was involved in the accident with a 52-year-old French man who was operating the boat. The collision took place around 4:45 pm near the Santa Margarida urbanisation. Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene, including Maritime Rescue crews, paramedics, air and ground ambulances, as well as local police and the Civil Guard.

Rescuers located the jet ski, administered CPR to the injured man on board, and transferred him to shore via a rescue vessel. Despite efforts by paramedics upon arrival at the port, the man succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, his son and the other individuals on the boat were unharmed.

The Judicial Police Unit of the Civil Guard of the Girona Command has initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. Statements have been taken from the boat occupants and the victim’s son, while breath and drug tests are being conducted on all involved parties, including the boat crew and the deceased’s son who was on the jet ski.
