The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking into a collision between a police cruiser and a civilian vehicle in Pickering, Ontario. The incident occurred on Kingston Road around 7:30 p.m. on Friday. According to SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon, the Durham Regional Police Service officer was en route to an emergency call when the crash happened at the intersection of Kingston Road and Brock Road.
Following the collision, the occupants of the civilian vehicle were taken to the hospital. A child in the vehicle sustained a serious injury, as reported by Hudon. Durham police confirmed that their officers were responding to a call when the accident occurred. Const. Nick Gluckstein mentioned that the SIU was notified and began its investigation.
Durham police announced road closures at Kingston Road and Brock Road, with Kingston Road shut in both directions and southbound traffic on Brock Road from Finch Avenue also affected for accident inquiries. By 2 a.m. the next day, the roadways had reopened, as per updates from Durham police.
The investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the collision between the police cruiser and the civilian vehicle in Pickering.
