“Calgary Flames Secure New Radio Home on 770 AM”

Published on

Calgary Flames have found a new radio station to broadcast their games. Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC) and Corus Entertainment have agreed on a five-year deal to air Flames games on QR Calgary 770 AM. This move comes after Rogers Sports and Media closed down Sportsnet 960, the previous broadcaster of Flames games, along with Calgary sister station 660 NewsRadio in July. This decision was part of a broader restructuring that led to the closure of six radio stations in Calgary, Vancouver, Halifax, and Kitchener, resulting in the loss of 230 jobs.

Under the new agreement, all Flames home and away games will be aired on 770 AM. CSEC’s President and CEO, Robert Hayes, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that they are thrilled to provide fans with a new home for Calgary Flames radio broadcasts. He acknowledged Corus as a valuable partner, emphasizing their efforts to ensure continued accessibility for fans throughout the season.

Additionally, a new daily sports talk show called “Flames Now” is in the works at the station. Corus audio vice-president Tammy Cole welcomed the Flames back to QR Calgary 770 AM, highlighting the station’s history of broadcasting the team’s Stanley Cup-winning games in 1989. Cole described the partnership as a significant moment, reflecting on the shared history while looking forward to a new chapter of fan engagement and support for the team in the years ahead.

It is worth noting that QR Calgary also broadcasts the CFL games of the Calgary Stampeders, another team owned by CSEC.
