The concert, initially scheduled for 8 p.m. on June 20, was rescheduled to 9 p.m., eventually starting around 10:45 p.m. Walia emphasized that the tardiness affected their overall experience negatively, despite the show being fantastic once it commenced.

For instance, Jay-Z’s final performance at Yankee Stadium in New York started nearly four hours late due to security issues. Entertainment lawyer Kurt Dahl highlighted that concert tickets offer limited rights to consumers, mainly guaranteeing the seat purchased and the show to some extent. The fine print often includes clauses allowing for event time changes without notice. Promoters usually incorporate flexibility into ticket agreements to accommodate unpredictable artist schedules, leaving consumers with little recourse during lengthy delays.

Ashish Sharma from the Consumers Council of Canada noted the absence of statutory rights for concert delays and suggested legislating rights similar to flight delays. As concertgoers invest more in live entertainment, including ancillary expenses like parking and accommodations, delays can have broader financial implications.

While Ticketmaster clarified that late starts do not automatically warrant refunds, consumers may exert influence through public pressure. Ultimately, fans like Walia feel that compensation or credits for future shows should be provided in cases of significant delays to ensure a fair consumer experience.
