150 corgis recently gathered for an international race in Vilnius, Lithuania, celebrating the beloved small herding dogs originally from Wales. The event featured not just a high-energy race but also a vibrant costume parade, a “smartest nose” challenge, and a lively loudest bark contest.
Participants from nine countries, including Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, Germany, Ukraine, Czech Republic, the United States, and Britain, showcased their corgis at Vingis park, with the competition drawing the largest turnout to date. Organizer Edvinas Miskas highlighted the event’s growth from its humble beginnings to now being considered the “European capital of corgis.”
The main running event saw 94 dogs competing in qualifiers, semifinals, and the ultimate 25-meter final race. The victorious corgi, GG, representing the United States as Gustave the Girl Dog, emerged as the champion, with Mr. Corgington from the U.S. coming in a close second and Lithuania’s Moka securing third place.
Apart from the speed race, the event also featured a delightful costume parade where corgis flaunted various outfits, a “smartest nose” challenge where Latvian corgis Tora and Rusty shared the win, and a spirited loudest bark competition won by Mr. Corgington. The festivities showcased the talents and unique personalities of these charming dogs and their dedicated owners.
Notably, the competition welcomed both newcomers and seasoned participants, with familiar faces like Amigo, Foksas, Foksis, Madeira, Bulka, and Dziugas gracing the event once again. The diverse array of activities and the camaraderie among corgi enthusiasts made this edition of the Corgi Race Vilnius a memorable and heartwarming celebration of these adorable four-legged companions.
