The Vancouver Rise have received reinforcements this week as they gear up for a crucial match against the Halifax Tides. The Northern Super League club has welcomed two new defenders to their roster to strengthen their squad.

Chantelle Swaby, who previously played for Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, who comes from NSL side AFC Toronto, have been signed by the Rise. Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller expressed that both players bring valuable qualities to the team as they strive to position themselves for a playoff spot.

Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues around the world, including the National Women’s Soccer League, the Scottish Women’s Premier League, and France’s top division. She emphasized her ability to maintain composure in high-pressure game situations and provide leadership from the backline.

Hansen, aged 26, is excited to return home to Vancouver, her hometown. She is looking forward to playing in front of a local crowd and being closer to her family. The addition of these players follows the retirement of Mariah Lee, who decided to pursue a career in law, leaving a gap in the team.

In a strategic move, Vancouver also loaned goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season. With the Rise currently trailing behind Halifax in the standings, the team is focused on securing a playoff position.
