A recent fire in Naujaat, Nunavut, has caused damage to construction materials designated for a public housing project in the area. The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) mentioned that it is too early to determine if this incident will impact the project’s timeline, which involves the development of an eight-unit public housing complex.

The fire broke out near the waterfront of the hamlet on Wednesday night and was promptly responded to by the local fire department. Chantal Pelletier, the senior administrative officer of Naujaat, confirmed this in an email.

Following the fire, the NHC is currently collaborating with the project contractor and local authorities to evaluate the extent of the damage. The completion date for the eight-unit housing project is set for June 2027, and the NHC spokesperson stated that the impact on this timeline is yet to be assessed.

Regarding the cause of the fire, the RCMP spokesperson mentioned that there is no information available at the moment, and it is unclear if an investigation is underway.
