Provincial authorities reported the fatality of a 22-year-old individual following a solo motorcycle accident in Pickering, Ontario, during the early hours of Saturday. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the incident on Highway 401, located between Brock Road and Westney Road, just before 2:30 a.m., as per an official statement released on Saturday morning.
The deceased, a resident of Scarborough, lost his life after crashing into an electronic sign board within a construction area, OPP disclosed on social media on Saturday morning. OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt mentioned in a video on social media that the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed. The impact caused the rider to be thrown off the motorcycle, resulting in fatal injuries.
Sgt. Schmidt confirmed that the man’s family has been informed of the tragic event. Following the accident, Highway 401’s westbound lanes near Westney Road and Brock Road were shut down for an extended period while investigations were conducted. However, a subsequent update from OPP confirmed the reopening of the road.
