CBC’s reality show, The Assembly, is back for its second season, featuring six new celebrity interviews and a larger group of over 30 neurodivergent and autistic adults taking on the role of interviewers. Notable personalities like Hudson Williams (Heated Rivalry), Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover), and Jay Baruchel (This is the End) are among the celebrities facing the tough questions.
The upcoming season will include appearances by actor and Miss Universe Canada Ashley Callingbull (North of North), singer-songwriter Lights, and three-time Olympic hockey gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin. Each celebrity will undergo an unscripted interview, delving into unconventional and personal topics beyond the usual promotional chatter.
Building on the success of the first season, The Assembly aims to create authentic interactions, with a mix of returning interviewers and new faces. The show’s format, inspired by the French program Les Rencontres du Papotin, emphasizes candid conversations, humor, and genuine connections.
The inaugural season of The Assembly received accolades such as a Canadian Screen Award for best direction, three Telly Awards, and a Golden Sheaf Award at the Yorkton Film Festival. The show was also a finalist for a Banff Rockie Award.
CBC executives Jennifer Dettman and Stephen Sawchuk express excitement for the new season, promising more heartfelt moments and candid discussions. Executive producer Sean De Vries highlights the show’s focus on human connection, resonating with viewers.
Produced by Vancouver-based Small Army Entertainment, the second season of The Assembly premieres on Sunday, November 1, at 9 p.m. ET on CBC TV and CBC Gem. Exclusive “producer’s cuts” will be available on CBC Gem starting at 9 a.m. ET on the same day.
