A popular streaming app that provided free access to a variety of content has officially shut down. This closure affects users of Fire TV Sticks and similar streaming devices starting today.

The app in question is Amazon’s Freevee platform, known for offering a range of content without requiring monthly subscription fees. Shows like “Jury Duty,” “Alex Rider,” “Bosch: Legacy,” and “Hell’s Kitchen USA” were available for free with ads until now.

As of September 1, Freevee’s content library has transitioned to Prime Video. Freevee users must now switch to the Prime Video app and log in using their Amazon account to access their favorite shows and movies.

A notification within the Freevee app informed customers that Prime Video is now the exclusive home for Freevee content, including TV shows, movies, and live TV. The Freevee app will remain accessible until August 2025.

Users will not incur additional charges, and content will remain free. However, some boxsets and movies on Prime Video may require a subscription or one-time fee. This change is likely designed to encourage Freevee users to subscribe to Prime Video or rent movies.

Existing Prime Video account holders will benefit from a consolidated viewing experience by accessing all Amazon content within a single app. This streamlining eliminates the need to switch between Freevee and Prime Video for content browsing.
