A woman has revealed her experience living in a Chinese ‘fat prison’ where she underwent a 28-day program in the strict facility. TL Huang, an Australian expat, detailed her stay at the weight loss center in Guangzhou, China, where unhealthy foods like instant noodles were prohibited. The living conditions were harsh with confined dormitories, tight security, and restricted movements.
According to Huang, inmates were under constant surveillance with limited freedom and strict schedules. She was mandated to participate in weigh-ins and rigorous exercise routines twice daily. The meals were controlled, focusing on healthy options like prawns with vegetables and steamed fish.
After falling ill with flu and a high fever three weeks into her stay, Huang was hospitalized, citing exhaustion and lack of energy due to the demanding regimen. These facilities, known as ‘fat prisons,’ have been established in response to China’s escalating obesity rates, aiming to curb the overweight population.
Huang paid $600 for her program, covering accommodation, meals, and workouts. Despite the challenging experience, she expressed satisfaction with the results, having lost 6kg during her time there. She emphasized the positive impact on her habits and routines, viewing the program as a beneficial step towards a healthier lifestyle.
Through videos documenting her journey, Huang shared her struggles with calorie tracking and intense workouts but acknowledged the camp’s role in fostering discipline and self-improvement. She encouraged others considering similar programs to focus on the long-term benefits and personal growth rather than solely on weight loss achievements.
