“Mother of James Bulger Fights Against Son’s Killer’s Parole”

Published on

Denise Fergus, the mother of James Bulger, has expressed her feelings of “anger” and “distress” regarding the recent decision to grant a new parole hearing to her son’s murderer. Jon Venables, who was just 10 years old when he committed the brutal murder of two-year-old James in 1993, has been given the opportunity for release pending the outcome of the hearing.

Denise Fergus, who has been given access to the upcoming parole hearing for Venables for the first time, is facing an anxious period of waiting to learn the details of the hearing. The process involves her being taken to a confidential location where she will be able to listen to Venables’ voice through a video link, as his identity remains protected.

During the parole hearing, Venables is expected to present reasons why he believes he has been rehabilitated. This will mark the first time in 30 years that Denise Fergus will hear the voice of her son’s killer.

In an exclusive interview, Denise expressed her frustration at the decision to grant Venables another chance at release, despite his history of criminal behavior, including possession of child abuse imagery. She emphasized her concerns about his potential release, questioning his ability to reintegrate into society without posing a threat.

Denise revealed her emotional preparedness to hear Venables’ voice again, acknowledging the difficulty of facing her son’s killer. She emphasized her determination to be present at the hearing to ensure that Venables understands the impact of his actions and the lasting pain he has caused.

Denise also expressed worries about the timing of the parole hearing, as it may coincide with significant dates related to her son’s tragic death. Despite the challenges and emotional turmoil, Denise and her husband Stuart remain vigilant in the lead-up to the parole hearing, recognizing the importance of seeking justice for James.

The heinous crime committed by Venables and his accomplice, Robert Thompson, in 1993 shocked the nation. While Thompson has reportedly stayed out of trouble since their release, Venables has faced multiple recalls to prison for offenses involving child abuse imagery.

Denise’s victim impact statement is expected to be part of the parole hearing process, allowing her to convey the lasting pain and loss caused by Venables’ actions. As she prepares to confront her son’s killer once again, Denise remains steadfast in her belief that Venables should never be granted freedom due to the irreversible harm he inflicted.
