A relative who purchased a baby toy for his one-year-old nephew on TikTok was shocked to discover the toy speaking 10 unsettling words. Aaron Green, residing in Wythenshawe, bought the jellyfish toy for £8.62 in October, intending it as a Christmas gift.

The toy was advertised as an ‘electric dancing jellyfish toy’ with LED lights and music features. Although it was supposed to dance and play music, the product description did not mention any audio capabilities, according to the Manchester Evening News.

It wasn’t until January 12 that Aaron’s sister sent him a disturbing video of the toy vocalizing for the first time, saying, “Live audio now being transmitted to data center for analysis.”

Subsequent recordings captured the same voice speaking indistinct words. TikTok is currently investigating the toy, and the product listing has been removed from the platform but is still available on other online retail sites.

Aaron expressed his surprise, stating that the toy was only meant to dance and play music. He was alarmed when his sister reported that it started speaking unusual phrases, including “live audio is being uploaded for analysis.”

Despite doubts about its AI obstacle avoidance feature, Aaron found it unsettling that the toy was exhibiting such behavior. He noted that the toy was manufactured in China and advised caution when purchasing cheap products online.

Attempts to find the product page again led to a message stating it was unavailable in the region or country. TikTok has not confirmed if the toy can record audio but assured customers of safety measures like seller verification, reporting systems, and return policies.

A TikTok spokesperson emphasized customer safety as a priority and mentioned the product’s removal pending a thorough investigation.
