Following the conviction of postmaster Robin Garbutt for the murder of his wife, he is now seeking a retrial based on new evidence that has emerged in the case.

Garbutt, 60, is considered one of the most significant victims of the Post Office scandal, with claims that flawed financial evidence, linked to the discredited Horizon computer system, was used against him during his 2011 trial.

Initially found guilty of killing his wife Diana, 40, at their post office in Melsonby, North Yorkshire, Garbutt’s case has been referred to the independent Criminal Case Review Commission (CCRC) for further investigation.

The CCRC has the authority to refer cases to the Court of Appeal if substantial new evidence comes to light or if there are major issues that impact the conviction or sentence.
